A Message from Powerful Youth re. COVID-19
On behalf of the whole Powerful Youth team, I want you to know that we are still hard at work planning for an amazing summer of Global Leadership Academies in Canada and the UK. However, we understand that COVID-19 and the global concerns around it at this time are serious, and we want you to know we are taking participant health and safety seriously. For that reason, and because we want you to be able to apply for our programs with confidence, we are introducing a few changes, particularly to our cancellation and refund policies.
For all applications with a deposit paid before April 15th (including applications received prior to today), we are offering no-penalty cancellation until June 1st, 2020. We want you to be able to plan for a great summer, but know that you will not be financial penalized for your forward thinking approach if the circumstances change. You can apply for our programs through the online application form here on our website.
In addition, most airlines have put in place generous policies for all new flights bookings so that you can book flights to our programs without concern. You can read Air Canada’s new policies here, or British Airways’ here.
At this time, we have also decided to consolidate our two UK sessions into one more diverse group of international young leaders. We will now be offering only one session of the Global Leadership Academy in the UK, July 26th to August 8th. This will be followed by our add-on, the Best of England Tour, which extends the program to August 14th for those students interested in having more time to explore and sightsee in beautiful, historic England!
The COVID-19 pandemic is changing every day, and we are monitoring the situation closely in both the Victoria, Canada area and the Cambridge, England area. We are staying positive that the substantial measures we are all taking now around the world will slow the spread and ultimately lead to minimal health concerns by the summer.
I also wanted to mention that in a global crisis like this, leadership becomes somehow even more important than it already was. We turn to our leaders – be it political leaders, health professionals, community leaders, school administration, CEO’s, or the people we look up to – and trust in them to make decisions in all of our best interests. Everyone can be a leader in making the world a little bit better right now, even if you are staying at home! Amplify the voices and information from reputable government sources, reach out to offer support or company (even virtually!) to someone in need of it, organize opportunities to bring people together online instead of in person, or donate what you can to local services that provide medical or food supplies to those who are unable to reach it or afford it… there are so many ways to make a difference!
The best and easiest way to get all the updates from Powerful Youth, including all our latest blog posts, is by following us on our social media channels. We are very active on both Facebook and Instagram, and following these accounts is a great way to stay up to date on all the latest news, application deadlines, and more. Plus, we share our blog posts and other fun content to bring a little positivity and leadership-oriented photos and articles into your feed!
Myself and my team are optimistic and looking forward to helping amazing young people become amazing young leaders this summer. If you have any questions or concerns, contact [email protected] and we will be happy to assist you.
Best regards,
David Charron, MBA
