Global Leadership Academy Canada
An award-winning, experience-based leadership development program for international teens ages 12-18
We know that all youth are powerful but often lack skills such as confidence, leadership, and global perspective necessary to be effective leaders of their own future success.
This Global Leadership Academy is designed for middle school and high school students ages 12-18 from around the world, with a curriculum that supports them in building the skills they need to make a change in themselves and their communities.
Our engaging 2-week summer leadership program for youth is packed with hands-on activities and challenges, impactful community service, breathtaking outdoor activities, and new experiences in the Victoria area of coastal British Columbia, Canada. No day is the same at the Global Leadership Academy! Participants are constantly being challenged in new ways to get out of their comfort zones and realize their unique potential as individuals and leaders.
The program tuition includes all program materials, emergency health insurance, and airport transportation as well as 6 months of post-program online coaching to ensure youth continue their personal development they committed to during the program.
WHICH GLA CANADA EXPERIENCE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
All GLA programs share the same learning objectives but accomplish these in different ways depending on the age group (12-14 or 15-18). However, the two groups are hosted on the same campus and often spend time together during meals, free time, off-campus trips, evening events, and select group activities.
Junior GLA (ages 12-14)
The Junior program is designed to help students become comfortable and confident with the different processes and approaches to leadership and to support them in better understanding their unique skills and abilities. There is also a greater focus on critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity throughout the activities, with design thinking as a guiding approach. Junior students complete a larger number of smaller challenges and projects compared to Senior students, including both group and individual projects.
Senior GLA (ages 15-18)
The Senior program is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge to develop individual community leadership projects with the intention of creating positive change. Students spend the first week focusing on skill building, teamwork, and gaining confidence, with the second week dedicated to better understanding themselves, the world around them, and how exactly they want to make a difference. Then, with the support of our coaches, they make a step-by-step plan to do just that, along with a presentation to share their vision.
ADD-ON: Best of BC Tour
The Best of BC Tour offers an action-packed, activity-filled tour program after the Global Leadership Academy concludes. Tour participants stay in both Victoria (2 nights) and Vancouver (3 nights) and enjoy exciting daily adventures including whale watching, hiking, shopping, exploring, university campus visits, and more. We recommend the GLA + Best of BC Tour package for any international participants interested in extending their visit and exploring more of British Columbia with us!

“I wish everyone could go through this learning process. In the two weeks that I’ve been here, I’ve had an awesome experience and formed like a family here.”

Ana Laura, Brazil
“A huge turning point in my teenage years was removing myself from my hometown bubble and going to (Canada) with 80+ other teens from around the world. Grateful for all of the people, peers, and possibilities that emerged from my time with Powerful Youth!”
“GLA is an experience that I went away from without my family to meet people who came from so many different places. I was out of my comfort zone… but it turned out great. It is an opportunity to work with people with perspectives very different from your own, to learn about yourself, to be responsible for yourself, and to be a part of something with people from different places. I learned so much about the world and about myself in a fun way with lots of activities!”
“I think that it was one of the best experiences that I’ve had in a long time, and I’m glad I got to be part of it. Not only was I able to develop my leadership skills but I was also able to experience new cultures and I developed my passions, not only that but I got to meet new people I wouldn’t be able to meet without this trip.”
“This experience taught me a lot of skills in leadership abilities as it’s designed for, but more than that, I also gained tons of wonderful experiences which I will cherish for the long run of my life. During this experience, I also met lots of interesting and fantastic people from all around the world and got a deeper understanding of other cultures.”
“It is an experience where you learn to develop and understand your leadership, challenge yourself, connect with incredible people and every day is a new experience that stays with you for life.”
“GLA helped me reach outside of my comfort zone and truly gave me one of the greatest experiences of my life.”
“Life changing, the other students and I are now set on our goals and objectives for life.”
“I think this new experience makes me more positive because I learned that leadership is not only taking initiative and leading the people, but also caring or supporting others. I didn’t have confidence in myself before, but now, I can say that I am one of the leaders.”
“It is amazing, I realized what I wanted to do and the purpose of doing it. I am making changes towards my dream, thanks to GLA.”
“These two weeks were nothing short of amazing! I met so many people and made so many amazing friends.”
“[GLA] made me a lot more confident and helped me value my passions, goals, and values a lot more than I valued them before. It also introduced me to the most amazing people… I feel that it helped me to be more understanding and accepting of other ways to live and do things. My experience was undeniably great, the staff was amazing, the participants were nice, and I learned to be more confident, kind, nice, and overall a better person and leader.”
“It was amazing because I didn’t even know my skills and what I could do until I attended GLA.”
“It helped me to know more about myself, taught me how to be a good leader, and [that I] can challenge myself. I am very fortunate to have come to this event, so that I have met a lot of people, learned a lot of things, and if I have the opportunity, I would like to go to other countries to participate in similar events.”
